Bursaries


To help our boys achieve their fullest potential at ACS (BR), the following bursaries are available to them with the aim of providing them with an enriching education in their time with us

MOE Opportunity Fund
  • Subsidy to own personal computers and to participate in developmental or enrichment programmes *

  2. Level 1(100% subsidy): Monthly household income
  3. Level 2 (80% subsidy): Monthly household income between $2501 and $3500 or PCI
  4. Level 3 (60% subsidy): Monthly household income between $3501 and $4500 or PCI

  • Disbursement of funds will be reflected by the subsidized costs for CCA co-payment fees and/or school-based programmes, after deduction from student’s Edusave account
  • Expectations on awardees
    • Good conduct
    • Contribute to the school community
    • Perform reasonably well academically

Merit Bursary for Permanent Residents
(MB-PR)
50% of the SPR rates for their school fees
  • New applicants: $60/month from 1 July – 1 Dec 2014
  • Renewal awardee: $60/month from 1 Jan – 1 Dec 2014


  1. First-time or renewal applicants. Applicants who were unsuccessful in previous attempts are not eligible for the bursary.
  2. Gross monthly household income of not more than S$4000
  3. Top 10% of level based on school examination results
  4. Good academic performance
  5. Very good conduct

For Renewal Applicants
  • MB-PR awardees in previous year transiting from primary to secondary schools (i.e. P6 to S1) are required to submit a fresh application, together with supporting documents

  • Awardees Studying in Same School in the new year will still have to apply to their schools for renewal of the award using the application form, even if they still meet the eligibility criteria

For New Applicants*
  • Applicants may be required to sit for a selection test. They would be notified of the test date (if necessary) and subsequently, the outcome of their application through school.
  • Unsuccessful applicants in previous year are not eligible to apply again

*The MB-PR scheme will be terminated by the end of 2015. New applications will not be accepted after 2014.

ACS Class of ’78 Bursary

The ACS Class of 1978 successfully organised its 30th anniversary reunion on 4 July 2008, and as part of the celebration of 30 years of friendship, the alumni has raised funds for four annual bursaries for current students of ACS schools. The bursaries will be awarded for a period of 10 years. The bursaries will be based on students' needs (not academic performance) and a committee has been set up to decide on the recipients. The award(s) will be made to the recipient(s) on Founder’s Day each year.

Subsidies on:
- Textbooks
- CCA programmes
- School-based programmes
- Pocket money
- Transport to and from school

  1. Must be a current student in any of the schools under the ACS family during the year of award.
  2. Bursary is not meant to be used for overseas class trips; only for students’ needs
  3. The Class of 1978 Committee will be guided by the schools who will be required to vet applicants’ financial needs.
  4. The bursary amount is to be spent on school fees or other related school items such as textbooks and CCA programmes.
  5. Recipients will be expected to

ACS ‘78 Earnest Lau Bursary

The Earnest Lau Bursary was established in commemoration of the late Mr Earnest Lau, ex-principal of ACS who passed away in 2011. Mr Earnest Lau was the principal when the Alumni of the Class of 1978 was at ACS. He was deeply respected by the old boys for his passion, conviction and character. He clearly touched the lives of all the students under him and while he strove to push his students to higher and greater achievements, he always maintained a strong conviction to Christian beliefs. It is for the legacy of his memory, values and teaching that the alumni has dedicated this fund.

1) Amount of up to S$1,000 per student.
2) Subsidies on:
- Textbooks
- CCA programmes
- School-based program mmes
- Pocket money
- Transport to and from school

Khoo Teck Quee Bursary

The Khoo Teck Quee Scholarships are sponsored by the family of the late Mr Khoo Teck Quee in remembrance of their father who believed strongly in the value of education. They are awarded each year to a deserving student of Secondary 1, 2 and 3.

    1. Family with 1 or 2 children/dependents - $3,000/month (Gross)
    2. Family with 3 or more children/dependents - $4,000/month (Gross)

    2. Family with 3 or more children/dependents - $4,500/month (Gross)

Ong Ai Teck Bursary for Leadership Opportunities

Mr Ong Ai Teik was a dedicated ACSian, first as a student, then a devoted teacher and later as a nurturing volunteer. Through his passionate interests, undying enthusiasm and dedicated leadership in the Boys’ Brigade and various sports, these activities under his charge blossomed.
A group of ex-students who have benefitted from his leadership aspire that such wonderful qualities should be encouraged and promoted through ACS, hence the Ong Ai Teik Fund was established to achieve said purpose.

  1. Amount of up to S$1,000 per student.
  2. 2 awards to be given out each year

Mandatory indicators

  1. Leadership role in CCA
  2. Excellent participation and performance with his CCA
  3. Exemplary conduct
  4. Teacher/Coach’s recommendations, with special consideration if supported by at least 50 students
Discretionary considerations
  1. Outstanding personal achievements in other contributions to school, be it in academia or school representation
  2. Spearheaded initiatives for other students/communities
  3. Participation with external organization(s)
  4. Priority will be given to students with total family household income of less than $4000 per month
  • Student(s) will be selected by a convening Selections Committee

  • Achieve at least 5 distinctions at the GCE N-Level examination
  • Exemplary character and conduct
  • Active contribution to the school and community.

  • Student(s) will be selected by a convening Selections Committee
Goh Hood Keng Scholarship Award
This scholarship award is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.

  • Top Sec 5 N(A) student at the GCE O-Level examination
  • Exemplary character and conduct
  • Student must go on to continue his education in a post-secondary institution.

CB Paul Scholarship Award
This scholarship award is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation.

  • Top Sec 3 student who has excelled academically
  • Achieved at least a Distinction in English Language and Mother Tongue Language

Thio Chan Bee Scholarship Award

The ACS OBA Gold and Silver Medals are presented by the ACS Old Boys’ Association to the top two students in the GCE O-Level examination who continue their education in an ACS institution.

Noris Ong Drama and Debates Scholarship
In line with our school's mission to provide a holistic education for our boys, the late Mr. Noris Ong, an old boy of ACS, offered the Noris Ong Drama and Debate Scholarships in 2005 to encourage our boys who have displayed talent and potential in the areas of Drama and Debates.
The scholarships give recognition to these boys who have excelled in these traditionally highly-acclaimed areas in ACS schools and also encourage them to scale greater heights of excellence.

Namazie Sports Scholarship for Rugby
The Namazie Sports Scholarship recognizes both his capability on the rugby field and his ability to excel in the academic arena.

Choo Hwee Lim Award for Badminton
In honour of Mr. Choo, for his contributions to ACS and for shaping the lives of many ACSians, a group of former ACS badminton boys have set up the ACS OBA -Choo Hwee Lim Award.

Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship


The late Mr Howe Yoon Chong, a former Chairman of PSA, was a visionary Singaporean who succeeded against all odds to build Singapore’s first container terminal, establishing Singapore as a top container port today. In his honour, the Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarship aims to recognize the same spirit of fortitude, by awarding bond-free scholarships to students from low-income families in need of financial aid.
The scholarships will pay for:
  1. a) tuition and other compulsory fees (annual)
  2. b) living allowance (annual)
  3. c) book allowance (annual)
  4. The duration of the scholarship will be up to 4 years.
*Applicable only to Sec 4 and 5 students looking for entry into local ITE/Polytechnics
The following criteria will be used in the selection of the scholars:
  1. a) Financial background – applicant’s household per capita income should not exceed S$750 per month
  2. b) Academic results – at least B average
  3. c) Track record in core curricula activities (CCA)
  4. d) Participation/Demonstrated ability/Contributions in any of the following areas:
    • Leadership and entrepreneurial skills
    • Community work
    • Innovation in science and technology
  • The scholarships will be bond-free. Scholars, however, are expected to emulate the example of the late Mr Howe and be morally obligated to contribute to society in some way when they graduate and start working.
